Why The Chimes Rang by Elizabeth Apthrop Mc Fadden
Why the Chimes Rang, 1912 by Elizabeth A McFadden is a Christmas Play celebrating Religion, Christianity, Diversity and Inclusion. Adapted by Elizabeth A McFadden from an English story affirming the seasonal spirit this book includies a full appendix with sections on Scenery, Lighting, Music and Costume with illustrations and Properties.
Published by Samuel French, this little book is based on a popular tale by Raymond Donald Alden. The play was written for Harvard University Professor George Pierce Baker's English '47 Workshop and soon became popular among amateur theatrical groups.
This play is in very good vintage condition. A name, probably that of a cast member, is written on the cover; the pages are clear and unmarked. Mr. DeVries, the name on the cover, was evidently a fast study or perhaps he dropped out of the cast. We'll never know, but he kept his copy of the play very well indeed.
