Long stitch is a simple yet meditative binding that can be used for many different styles of hand bound books. Participants will design cover and spine of their book, choosing from or creating their own patterned papers. We will also experiment with the inside of the book, using blank papers, found text, pages with surface design, and re-purposed materials.We will be using bookboard and a bookbinding adhesive to attach our pages to our cover, however, this binding can be used with stiff cloth covers or leather covers as well. We will use yarn to sew the pages together with the option to add to the stitches that are exposed on the spine of the book. At the end of class each participant will have a hand bound book that can be a gift for a loved one, or a journal to place their thoughts, feelings and goals theY wish to achieve.
